Wichita State's Garrett Stutz has been chosen as the StatSheet Missouri Valley Player of the Week for the week ending February 6th. Northern Iowa's Deon Mitchell has won StatSheet's Missouri Valley Freshman of the Week. And last but certainly not least, Northern Iowa's Chip Rank takes home StatSheet's Missouri Valley 6th Man of the Week.
Stutz led the entire Missouri Valley in scoring (24.5 pts per game), rebounding (13.0 per game), and blocked shots (3.0 per game). He also registered a huge number in shooting (60%). The Wichita State senior played well for the Shockers in victories against Missouri State and Indiana State.
Stutz led scoring and rebounding for the Shockers with 25 points and 11 rebounds in a 74-67 win over Missouri State. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring and rebounding with 24 points and 15 rebounds in a narrow 71-66 victory against Indiana State.
This is the first StatSheet Missouri Valley Player of the Week honor for Garrett Stutz. The runner-up this week is Kyle Weems, a senior from Missouri State. Honorable mention goes to Doug McDermott, a sophomore from Creighton. Tyler Brown finished seventh and was the highest ranking player from Illinois State.
StatSheet Missouri Valley Freshman of the Week: Northern Iowa's Deon Mitchell
Deon Mitchell was on the floor an average of 29 minutes while starting both games for Northern Iowa. His averages in both scoring (14.5 pts per game) and free throws (7.0 per game) led all Missouri Valley freshmen. In a 58-49 win over Southern Illinois, Mitchell topped the Panthers in scoring with 17 points and tossed in 2 assists. Following that in a thin 65-62 win against Creighton, he added 12 points and 2 assists.
This is the first StatSheet Missouri Valley Freshman of the Week honor for Deon Mitchell. The runner-up is Seth Tuttle from Northern Iowa. Honorable mention goes to our own Nic Moore.
StatSheet Missouri Valley 6th Man of the Week: Northern Iowa's Chip Rank
Sophomore Chip Rank, a 6-6 reserve forward, averaged 25 minutes over the two games for the Panthers. In the win against Southern Illinois, Rank added 13 points on 100% shooting. Then in the win over Creighton, he racked up 9 points and 2 rebounds.
This is Chip Rank's first StatSheet Missouri Valley 6th Man of the Week award this season. Ethan Wragge, a sophomore forward from Creighton, is runner up. Ned Cox, a junior guard from Evansville, receives honorable mention. Illinois State has yet to win the StatSheet Missouri Valley Player of the Week award this season.
